The Cumberland Hotel

Tour Highlights

Monday – As we travel to Bournemouth we will stop at Winchester, explore more than 1000 years of medieval history, marvel at the 12th century wall paintings and carvings in the Cathedral. You may view the illuminated Bible and see the statue of King Alfred The Great in Broadway. Arriving at our hotel mid-afternoon giving you time to relax before your evening meal.
Tuesday – A day of leisure, you could just take time to enjoy the wonderful delights of Bournemouth, why not visit the many gardens or miles of sandy beaches with panoramic views of the coastline.

Wednesday – Today we visit Sir Harold Hillier Gardens is known the world over. Sir Harold Hillier spent all his formative years creating some of the most glorious gardens, however more than that he wanted to ensure that horticulture conservation was paramount. In 1953 the distinguished plantsman, Sir Harold Hillier established the Gardens and Arboretum. Over many years, he assembled a remarkable collection, in the aim to bring together the most comprehensive and unrivalled collection of trees, shrubs and hardy plants in the UK. As such many species have been collected and harboured to enable the longstanding preservation. The gardens are set out in over 180 acres with the centenary garden, an award winning double border which is the longest in the Country. The Himalayan Garden is also spectacular with an authentic resting place to honour the Gurkhas. In the afternoon, we visit the medieval city of Salisbury. This stunning City has a magnificent cathedral with the tallest spire in England, which also displays the original Magna Carta.
Thursday - Travel to Norden for a ride on steam train ride to Swanage, on this scenic journey you will have the opportunity to admire the ruins of Corfe Castle, arriving at the Victorian seaside resort of Swanage. Later we board the Dorset Cruise to Poole Harbour, experiencing the fantastic scenery Dorset has to offer including Brownsea Island, Old Harrys Rock as well as taking in the views of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO heritage site. While on this fantastic Cruise, the captain gives you a captivating live commentary on the history of this stunning region. Arriving at Poole Harbour you will have time to discover the second largest natural harbour in the world which has superb shopping and luxury boats.

Friday – There will be a lunch break enroute and regular comfort stops.
