Saturday – Travelling to Eastbourne stopping briefly at Windsor where you can have lunch and wander the glorious town, the Official Residence of the Queen.
Sunday& Monday – A days of leisure to explore the area, maybe visit Beachy Head, Redoubt Fortress or simply sit and enjoy the beautiful gardens showcasing their springtime displays.
Tuesday – One of the first preserved heritage lines in the country The Blue Bell Railway is our first stop today. The line has one of the finest collections of vintage steam trains and carriages. This wonderful railway takes you through some stunning landscapes, so sit back and let the train transport you to a bygone age. The line runs for over 22 miles and has been used many times for film and television, including Downton Abbey and Churchills Secret. In the afternoon, we visit Sheffield Park and Gardens. The parkland forms part of the huge Sheffield Park Estate, which has been a deer park and even a WWII camp. The River Ouse runs across the bottom edge, attracting vast arrays of wildlife including kingfishers, dragonflies and even birds of prey. The Gardens are centred around four lakes with paths circulating through the glades and wooded areas surrounding them. The dramatic Pulham Falls are simply divine, and at this time of year the displays of spring flowers including bluebells and hellebores should not be missed.
Wednesday – We begin the day at Rye, a fortified hilltop town that played an important role in the defence of the south coast of England. We will visit on market day, so why not explore what it has to offer or visit the St Mary’s church tower which offers the best viewpoint to show the terracotta roofs of the many timbered house. Onward to the English Wine Centre, a vineyard set very close to the village of Alfriston. Here we will be able to learn more about our British Wines and then take part in a tutored wine sampling including some lovely sparkling wines.
