Monday – On our way to the hotel we stop for a lunch break at Weston-Super-Mare. A very traditional seaside resort with a fabulous Central Pier, miles of sandy beaches and a recently refurbished promenade.
Tuesday – A leisure day to enjoy all the local attractions, including Paignton Zoo, Paignton Pier, a thriving harbour with plenty of pleasure beaches. Or take a local bus along the coastline to Torquay. Where you can explore the seaside resort and sample the award-winning fish and chips.
Wednesday – The Dartmoor National Park is a vast moorland in Devon County, famous for its roaming ponies. Travelling on to the Dartmoor Visitor Centre, via Bovey Tracey, famous for its glass blown marbles, continuing through Morton Hampstead to the iconic town of Postbridge. The journey continues to Princetown, the highest village on Dartmoor, take time to enjoy the glorious views. The visitors centre was a hotel, one of its guests Sir Arthur Conan Doyle took inspiration from here for ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’. Then on to Plymouth, considered to be England’s only Ocean City, where we will have a break, you could visit the Mayflower Steps where pilgrims left this Isle to travel on to the Americas. Later in the day there will be a harbour cruise, we will sail across the Plymouth Sound, flanked by the Devon and Cornish coasts, see the magnificent Plymouth Hoe and Drakes Island before heading into the Royal Naval Dockyard. Thursday – This morning we travel to Exeter, the Capital of Devon. Surrounded by a stunning Roman Wall and home to the magnificent Exeter Cathedral. We will have some free time so explore the Cathedral or visit the quayside with its fascinating Visitors Centre and Museum based in the old Customs House. Inside you will experience the stories of local people and hear how quayside changed this whole area. Then onto Sidmouth which is nestled between majestic sandstone cliffs, on the Jurassic Coastline. The charming gardens that surround the town and Regency era buildings will transport you back in time.
Friday – Returning with a lunch break at Burnham on Sea arriving back in the afternoon
